But I think we as women can actually feel this shift, even if the headlines weren’t constantly confirming it. We have seen it with our friends, family members, in social groups and even within ourselves. It feels like we’ve stepped into a time machine back to the 1950's where a woman’s choice to be a “stay-at-home mom” or a “career woman” are two polarizing, extreme options and choosing one over the other means losing out on a huge part of ourselves.
But what if there is another way?
Let me drop some light onto what has been a dark time for many. While I don’t pretend you can have a perfect balance (news flash: it’s impossible so stop chasing it, but I'll leave this for conversation for another day) you CAN design a life that aligns with your goals and desires. One where you can work when you want, where you want, with who you want, with truly unlimited earning potential. One that allows you to choose both your kids and a career. One that gives you freedom like you never thought possible. One where you don't have to choose between finances or family.
Incase you haven’t already guessed it; I’m talking about that #virtualassistantlife. Not only are Virtual Assistants in high demand as more and more people move their business’ online, it is also a title that allows you to choose your own adventure! Use skills you already have in your arsenal to get you going. You don't have to have a formal education, or take classes and courses, you are ready to launch just as you are. Starting a virtual assisting business is the best business to start in 2020.
Tons of secretarial or clerical experience? Be an administrative VA! Love all things social media? Become a social media manager. Tech-savvy with a passion for systems and streamlining? Make this your specialty to help businesses get organized online. The options truly are endless!
You don’t need much to get started either. A computer, wifi and a social media account where people can go to learn more about you are pretty much it!
And if quitting your 9-5 is a little too daunting, try it as a side hustle first by freelancing for other entrepreneurs or small businesses owners using your current skill set. A successful freelancing business can definitely be built alongside your traditional 9-5. Connect within local Facebook groups and offer your services. It’s a super easy (and free) way to market yourself, gain some experience and build your business. As you get more work thrown your way, you can decide if you’re ready to make your freelancing a full-time career, or simply continue to keep it as a side gig for a little extra cash infusion. Either way, it’s a win so go out there and get after the life you desire…and deserve!
