Sell In The DMs!

You can (and should) close deals in the DMs. BUT this is one place where there really is a super clear right, and even clearer wrong way to do this.

We don't want to leave any of your potential clients saying ewwww, David.

If you are selling in the DMs you HAVE to bring your common sense. Instagram is for relationship building. Treat it like you would a social situation in real life. If you wouldn't say something in real life, don't say it on Instagram!

Okay so you've got your common sense on, now what? Find your ideal client!

This is my favorite tip for finding ideal clients: START LOCAL. Yes yes yes I know it's a virtual business and you can literally support anyone anywhere but it's REALLY easy to have super natural conversations with local business owners. For example, I am an OBM living in the small town of Palm Harbor, Florida and I love supporting AirBnB owners. I would search #tampaairbnb or #orlandoairbnb and search for ideal clients there first. Why?!? Because it's EAAAAASY to start natural conversations!

Once you hear those angels sing and see halos above the profiles the magic happens. 😇

Find a recent post, like it and leave a meaningful + genuine comment. Then follow.

If they have active stories, find one that you like and send a reaction or comment! Again, authenticity WINS. Connect over #momlife or the cutest pup or their morning cup of coffee. Remember, the goal is to build a relationship with the person.

When they follow you, send them a SHORT welcome message. Something like, "Hey NAME, just wanted to say hi! Hope you're having a great day, I'm glad we connected!" This is not the time to tell them everything about you or ask everything about them. Just hello :)

Over the next 7 - 10 days continue engaging with their content.

PRO TIP: Separate leads from friends in your Inbox by moving them to the "General" inbox.

As you engage over the next few weeks, make sure your content is ENGAGING and SPEAKING TO YOUR EXACT IDEAL CLIENT. Serve serve serve + provide VALUE! GOOD value. ;)

In your stories create polls, questions, surveys and respond to those engaging. Start conversations with everyone that interact with you!

Listen to what your potential clients are telling you - are they stressed? overwhelmed with their to do list? being inconsistent on social media? innundated with customer service requests? can never get to inbox zero?

BE THE SOLUTION! 💡

So how do you know when it's the right time to take the conversation from friend to red hot lead?? There's no magic formula, you really have to trust your gut and use your common sense. Remember, treat the conversations on Instagram like conversations IN REAL LIFE.

By now you have allowed your new friend to get to know you, they like you, and because you've led with heart + integrity and provided a metric fuckton of value, they trust you. WINNING. They are consuming and engaging with your content.

So when you're ready, here's what to say: "Hey NAME, I would really love to support you around ALL THE THINGS YOU'LL DO FOR THEM. Would you be interested in hopping on a zero pressure discovery call so we can chat and see how I can best support you with THEIR PROBLEM."

Then, follow up message, Let me know what you think!

What you do next makes or breaks relationships.

They say - Oh my gosh, you are a Godsend, I would love to chat!

And you say - Yay!! I am so excited to chat and meet you, here is how you can grab a spot on my calendar. (send link)

If they say nothing! Here is what you do. FOLLOW UP. And then you go on engaging as if that conversation never happened.

If they say no. THAT'S OKAY. Here's what you say, "I totally understand, I'm here if you need anything and I'll be cheering you on!" And then you go on engaging as if that conversation never happened. This shows you CARE. This shows that they aren't just a sales opp. This shows that you're being genuine and authentic and actually DO want to help.

Being genuine, being authentic, being valuable will ALWAYS pay off. Always! 😘
