Let's talk about social media. Some of us love it, some of us hate it, some of us are mystified by it. I get it. I see you there building your business, trying to attract dream clients, while doing your best work for your current clients, manage your finances because you're probably your own bookkeeper, keep up to date on the to-do list and the bajillion other things it takes to live that #entrepreneurlife. And one of the biggest things I hear from you is that in the midst of all of this you find it really hard to show up like you think you should on social media.
Well, I’m here to hopefully help you breathe a huge sigh of relief and let yourself off the hook because the truth is, you don’t have to be everywhere to grow. In fact, you shouldn’t be everywhere (feeling the pressure start to release yet?)!
If you’re trying to be in all the places the likelihood is that you’re overwhelming yourself so much that you’re actually not showing up well anywhere. So let’s stop that and get you back on track, ok?
The first step is to figure out where your ideal clients hang out. Is it on Facebook, Clubhouse, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok etc? Find the one or two platforms where you know they are and make a plan to show up there regularly. The key is to also make sure it’s a platform you’re comfortable with because if you know your ideal client is there but you have no idea how to create content that resonates on that platform, you’re putting a lot of effort into a space that won’t give you the reward for your time and energy.
Next is to determine how many times a week you can reasonably manage to consistently post on the platform(s) you’ve chosen (and don’t forget to re-purpose that content as much as you can). No sense in posting to Instagram 3 times a day 5 days a week and then not posting content again for a month because you're burned out. The magic bullet with most social media platforms is consistency, but YOU get to define what that means for you. Yes, even once a week is consistent and will help you grow.
Once you’ve determined the platform(s) and the posting frequency, it’s time to schedule it! Find time in your calendar when you can regularly work on your social media posts. Batch create content for the week, use a scheduler to post it so you don’t have to worry about it (Creator Studio is a great one that’s also free) and then move on knowing that one big task has been crossed off your list.
Remember, the goal of social media isn’t to post and ghost and gain more followers so don’t worry about if you have 100 or 1,000 followers. The numbers are just vanity metrics. The whole point is actually to engage! To get in front of your ideal clients, to build meaningful connections and to have real conversations with them. To cultivate a community of people who support you, encourage you or would one day want to buy from you.
But all of that takes time so be patient and give yourself grace. Post consistent, quality content a few times a week on the platform(s) of your choice and engage with your followers and I promise you will soon go from struggling to thriving on social media.
Tell me what your social handles are so I can follow along with you and be one of your raving community fans! 😊
