Sweet Summer Time

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

As a business owner…do you LOVE summer? Or does it stress you out? Or maybe you’re a combo of both?

For me I think it’s both. I thrive off predictability and schedules and arranged child care 😉 But I also love spontaneous afternoon trips to the pool, mid day popsicle breaks and rainy day trips to a museum or library.

There is something sacred about summer. The sunshine, the slower pace, the opportunities for memory making. But also, business doesn’t stop. So is there a way to live in the and? To make the most of all that summer offers AND keep business thriving. Heck yes sister.

Here’s how I make it happen schedule more joy and more fun. Yes, actually schedule it. Put it on the calendar - make yourself “busy” during this time. Create room for white space in your schedule. Summer, is not the time for over-scheduling. My kids are all too little for “regular” summer camp, in fact my youngest two are really too young for any kind of camp, praise the Lord I was able to get Magnolia into a 3 day a week 5 hour a day summer camp at her preschool. But this is a big deviation from our normal. I would have used to try to just push through and make it happen. When your schedule changes or your child care situation changes or there’s an illness or a pandemic - your schedule HAS to change. Give yourself the gift of a schedule filled with ease.

I was talking with a client about our teacher tendencies to schedule every minute of every day because #classroommanagement but really we don’t operate optimally like that and our kids definitely don’t - they NEED down time and free time and unscheduled time. So we worked on actually decreasing the daily to do list so we could make more time for the things that are MOST important to her - spending time with family + serving clients + soaking up the summer.

Say NO more. Maybe you don’t take on anymore new clients on the summer. Maybe you decide launching isn’t the best idea for the summer. Whenever you say no - it creates room for a new yes.

Make a list of summer non-negotiables. Plan your time off. Take an ACTUAL vacation. If you know you want to go to the pool with your girlfriends every Friday at 10am - make that happen! If you want to start every day at the playground with the kids

Take all the help. Ask for help. Outsource and delegate more - whether that’s lawn care, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, child care, etc.

Do less, God Bless. My favorite phrase. Do less scrolling. Do less engaging. Do less posting. I pinky swear promise you - your business will not collapse and disappear.

So now that summer is here - how ya feeling?
